How an Office Elf can Engage Employees

Christmas and the holiday season is a pretty special time of year, spending time with family and friends and continuing the holiday traditions you hold near and dear to your heart. A very popular tradition with kids is the Elf on the Shelf who is sent from the North Pole to help Santa Claus manage his naughty and nice lists. It brings families together and gives the kids something to look forward to each morning. What mischief does your Elf get into every night?

The Elf on the Shelf idea isn’t just limited to your home with your kids. You can always turn it into a fun office engagement tool. Here at Lipic’s, we started our own Elf tradition years ago to get everyone into the holiday spirit. Each of our two Lipic elves make their way around the office, causing plenty of mischief. Missing your stapler? It was probably one of the elves. Looking for that important spreadsheet? Check with an Elf. But, they’re not always naughty. Sometimes they just stop by to say hi and let you know you’re appreciated. The closer it gets to Christmas, some of them even bring our favorite treats to say thank you for a job well done.

While it is a simple idea, our office looks forward to the Elf every holiday season. It brings us together by interacting with one another every day in a fun way. And while it may usually be reserved for our children, it brings out the kid in all of us. Who knows, we might get to our desk in the morning to find the Elf has left us a treat or we might come back from lunch to find everything on our desk upside down. It’s a fun game that engages each employee and helps prepare the office for the holidays.
