National Nurses Day is celebrated annually on May 6 to raise awareness of the important role nurses play in society. It marks the beginning of National Nurses Week, which ends on May 12, the birthday of Florence Nightingale. Florence Nightingale (1820-1910) was an English nurse who became known as the founder of professional nursing, especially due to her pioneering work during the Crimean War (1853-1856). Due to her habit of making rounds at night, Nightingale became known as “The Lady with the Lamp”. National Nurses Week was first observed in October 1954, the 100th anniversary of Nightingale’s mission to Crimea. May 6 was introduced as the date for the observance in 1982.
Take some time to honor your Nurses this year, as it’s never too early to start preparing. Here are some great ideas to show your nurses you appreciate all they do.
- Earbud Charger Kit – The kit includes a USB wall charger, a set of earbuds, and zippered case. This is a great gift for the Nurse on the go. They may need to charge their phone while at work or they can listen to music while on break. You can also get it in your company colors, so they are reminded that their company cares.
- Mason Jar Tumbler with Handle – Mason Jars are really trendy this year, as they have that old time feel. This tumbler is great to keep them hydrated throughout the day.
- Micro-Plush Fleece Blanket – This is the perfect gift for keeping warm around the house or while traveling. Have your company logo embroidered on this for Nurses to keep for a long time.
- The Classic Sampler Tower – The Classic Sampler Tower is the perfect way to say “Thank You” with an ample variety of premium handmade chocolate favorites. You can never go wrong with food goods, but be sure to take the time to pick out exactly what you want to go in each box so that the nurses know each gift was tailored to them.
