October is here, so be prepared to see a lot of Pink. Many of us have been affected by the disease in some way, and it is important to come together to raise awareness. A medical supply company has come up with a great way to raise awareness and unite employees. It’s the “Pink Glove Dance” — and it’s sweeping medical centers across the nation.
What started with healthcare workers at one hospital in Portland, Oregon, has become an international, inspirational dancing phenomenon across the globe. The original pink gloves and pink glove dance began as a fun way to raise awareness about the importance of early detection, and proved an important forward step in the fight to save lives. Pink Glove Dance: The Sequel featured more than 4,000 healthcare workers and breast cancer survivors from the Golden Gate Bridge to Times Square.
With such great success, the Pink Glove dance has created all kinds of unintended, positive consequences:
- The creation of the videos engages employees of the participating healthcare organizations; that has to be a good thing!
- The people participating in the videos look like they are genuinely having fun! What can be better than having a good time while promoting a great cause – breast cancer awareness.
- In the end, the Pink Glove Dance Video Competition will lead to one hospital winning $10,000 to donate to their favorite breast cancer charity.
- The videos demonstrate to the community the depth of commitment on the part of the organization/hospital to increase breast cancer awareness and drive early detection. Hospitals have often been places where you go for acute illness, rather than organizations promoting wellness and disease prevention/early detection. It is great for the public to see our hospitals so actively and openly embracing this role.
